Painted Pony Inc. Painted Pony, Inc. is a newly-formed, for-profit subsidiary of the WRDF, a non-profit community development financial institution serving the Wind River Indian Reservation in central Wyoming. WRDF promotes economic development on the reservation by providing loans and business development services to entrepreneurs, including its 10-week SAGE (Strengthening and Growing Entrepreneurs) business planning course. In its first project, Painted Pony, Inc. has partnered with the Wyoming Department of Education to develop traditional Native American stories for children. The first book, "YUSE, The Bully and the Bear," a Shoshone tribal story by John Washakie, is now being distributed to elementary schools throughout Wyoming. John Washakie is the great-grandson of Chief Washakie. Illustrated with full color pictures by Wyoming artist, Jon Cox, these classic stories bring to life the rich Native American story-telling tradition that will entertain readers now and for generations to come. Each story is produced in book form, as well as a CD. The CDs are oral recordings of the stories in the original Shoshone and Arapaho languages.
