Assets and Opportunities:
Growing Wealth, Reducing Poverty and Achieving Equity in
Rural America

A consultative session for regional and national funders, rural practitioners, academics, and policy organizations

Intent:
Following an eighteen month research project, Dr. Michael Sherraden of Washington University in St. Louis, an innovator among poverty experts, will propose ways of understanding the poverty of rural places and strategies for alleviating that poverty through wealth creation. Leaders in philanthropy, policy and practice from across the country are invited to come and critically examine Dr. Sherraden’s research and its implications for building wealth and economic opportunity in rural places and among communities of color. Specifically, participants will work together to: 1) identify, question, and expand upon critical themes in the research, and 2) suggest actions within each sector to support the next phase of rural wealth building.

Attendance and Registration:
The event is by invitation only.  Attendees will represent a broad cross-section of those addressing issues of poverty, wealth creation, racial disparities, rural development, and economic opportunity within policy, philanthropy, academia, and practice.
